Platelet Therapy (PRP) Q & A

What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP)?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) consists of plasma sourced from your own blood. It’s rich in platelets, which have natural healing abilities and stimulate new cell production. Providers at Afzal Clinics use PRP during numerous anti-aging treatments to give you the younger-looking appearance you deserve.

What are the benefits of PRP?

Some of the many benefits you can expect by choosing platelet-rich plasma treatments at Afzal Clinics include:

  • Younger-looking skin
  • Fewer lines and wrinkles
  • Increased collagen and elastin production
  • Tighter skin
  • Healthier skin
  • Fewer skin imperfections
  • Improved facial contours
  • Thicker hair

PRP is an all-natural treatment that uses plasma sourced from your own blood. It’s a painless, noninvasive procedure that can produce dramatic anti-aging results.

Is platelet-rich plasma therapy right for me?

To find out if you’re a candidate for PRP at Afzal Clinics, your specialist discusses your desired outcome and medical history with you. They examine areas of your face, body, or scalp that concern you and let you know what to expect during the procedure.

What happens during PRP treatment?

During treatments that use platelet-rich plasma, your Afzal Clinics provider takes a sample of blood from a vein, usually in your arm. They spin the blood sample in a centrifuge to extract  PRP from the remainder of the blood.

When the PRP is ready, your provider can numb the treatment area if you’d like, before injecting PRP into targeted areas of your face, body, or scalp.

Sometimes, your provider applies PRP to your face with microneedling, a cosmetic treatment that creates tiny microtears in your skin to enhance healing and stimulate cell regeneration.

What should I expect after my treatment?

After platelet-rich plasma treatment, there’s no downtime. You can resume a normal daily routine immediately, but you can expect redness, tenderness, and swelling at the site of treatment. Ice the area if you’d like to reduce swelling.

The Afzal Clinics team often recommends a series of PRP treatments spaced apart over time to give you the best results. As cells continue to regenerate, you will notice smoother, healthier, younger-looking skin or a fuller head of hair.
